I still remember the day I learned that Princess Diana was killed in a car accident. I had just stepped out of the shower when my husband said “I have bad news for you“. That is when he told me about Diana’s death.
I was one of the millions of people who watched Princess Diana’s marriage to Prince Charles on television. I remember getting up before the crack of down just to tune in.
Diana seemed to have a fairytale life. She was a regular person – like you and I – who suddenly because a princess and a future queen.
I thought it was horrible when I found out that Prince Charles wanted to be with his lover Camilla instead of his young wife. I had hoped that Diana would have gone on to have a wonderful life without Charles. After all, isn’t happiness and success the best form of revenge?
The biopic film, Diana, is now available on Blu-ray and DVD. The film stars Naomi Watts as Diana and it covers the last two years of her life. The film mostly focuses on her relationship with a heart surgeon name Hasnat Khan. To be honest with you I never knew about her relationship until I heard about the film in theaters. Apparently he was the love of her life.
The film portrays Diana has a sad and lonely person. All she really wants is for someone to love and someone to love her back. She didn’t get the love she craved from her former husband, Prince Charles.
Diana met Hasnat by chance when she came to the hospital to comfort a friend. She was instantly smitten with the handsome doctor. So much so she almost became like a stalker, trying to bump into Hasnat as much as possible (she would conveniently show up to bump into him).
Their relationship started off slowly but soon kicked into high gear. Diana was head over heels in love with her. She even traveled to his home country of Pakistan to meet his family.
Diana craved to have a normal relationship with Hasnat, but the media were always hot on her trail. She even had to resort to wearing a wig to disguise herself and borrowing her butler’s car just to spend a few stolen moments with Hasnat.
Diana and Hasnat eventually parted ways because he was unable to live in the spotlight. He knew that being with Diana would mean he would constantly be surrounded by cameras and public scrutiny.
Dodi Fayed, in my opinion, was more so a rebound relationship. I don’t think she truly loved him. Her heart belonged to the man she couldn’t have – Hasnat.
I don’t know how much of this film is based on fact and how much is based on “hear say”. In any event it portrays Diana as a sad and lonely woman who simply wanted what we all want – love. It was something that eluded her and she was never able to have before her untimely passing.
The only bonus features are interviews with the cast from the film including Naomi Watts, Naveen Andrews (Hasnat) as well as the film’s director and others.
I liked the movie. I think it was well done. I did have a hard time with Naomi Watts playing Diana. I didn’t Diana when I looked at her – I kept seeing Naomi (if that makes any sense). Maybe an unknown actress would have been a better choice.
They film was shot at various locations around the world which I thought really added to the film.
I liked having an inside look at the Diana that no one really had a chance to see. It made me feel really sorry for her. I always thought she lead a charmed life. After seeing the film I realize that she didn’t have a fairytale ending after all.
Look for Diana where ever movies are sold.

I would really like to see this movie. I am like you, I felt so sorry for her. She had to go through eveything in the public eye. I will have to rent this one for sure. Great review!!
