When people hear “lemurs” and “Madagascar” no doubt they think about those comical creatures such as King Julien, Maurice and Mort from the popular animated series Madagascar. The lemurs featured in Island of Lemurs: Madagascar are real live lemurs.

Here is the trailer for your enjoyment.
I never knew what a lemur was until my kids watched a show called Zoboomafoo by the Kratt Brothers when they were little. My kids loved that show. So much so I was able to find them a plush Zoboomafoo, which we still have (it’s packed away in the basement).
I’ve always thought Lemurs were rather amusing creatures. It wasn’t until after watching this film that I really learned to appreciate these amazing creatures. Lemurs are beautiful creatures and they are very amusing to watch. They remind me a lot like monkeys, but they are not monkeys. They also have a lot of human like qualities to them.
It’s fun to watch them bounce around on the ground and how effortlessly they swing from tree to tree. They are very entertaining.
I was also fascinated to learn that there are so many different types of Lemurs.
What I liked most about this film is that it educated you about the plight of these amazing creatures – some on the verge of extinction – without coming across as too educational. I looked at it more as entertainment with a bit of educational value tossed in for good measure.
The cinematography is spectacular! I never realized just about majestic an beautiful the island nation of Madagascar truly is. It looks like paradise.
The music score is also very fitting for this film.
This is an IMAX film so you know the quality is breathtaking. I wish I had the opportunity to see this film in an IMAX theater. After watching this film it made me realize I need to check out what films are in our local IMAX theater more often. Some films, like Island of Lemurs: Madagascar are meant to be seen in an IMAX theater.
After watching this film I have a new found appreciation for lemurs and I will never look at them the same way again.
The Blu-ray also includes bonus features including the making of the film (and the great lengths they went to in order to capture the scenes), deleted scenes, A Baby Indri (see a 13 year old baby lemur – too cute!), The Cutest Lemur (I want one!) and more.
You can own Island of Lemurs: Madagascar TODAY! Look for it where ever movies are sold.
