Earlier this month I posted about how this is National Migraine Awareness Month. I tried to make a joke about how my husband, a migraine sufferer, is more than well aware of his migraines. In fact he had one the night before last. That one was triggered by our teenage daughter (aka – STRESS!).
In that post I wrote about some of the common migraine triggers;
Hydration – Dehydration can lead to migraines. Drinking plenty of water can help prevent this, and also helps rid your body of chemicals and toxins. When you are enjoying all the great activities and events during the hot summer months make sure to keep your body well hydrated.
Diet – Certain chemicals in food and beverages can cause migraines. Eating more fresh and fewer processed foods can also help rid your body of toxins or chemicals that could be causing your headaches.
Weather Changes – Changes in weather or barometric pressure can trigger migraines.
Menstrual Cycle – Women with a history of migraines often report headaches immediately before or during their periods, when they have a drop in estrogen.
There are plenty of other triggers too like teenagers – I mean stress :-), scents (my husband’s migraines can sometimes be triggered by scents), and a combination of things.
Last year when I met Dr. Keri Peterson, an Internist, at an Excedrin event we learned that she also suffers from migraines. She told us that she can eat shrimp and drink wine with no problem, but when she eats shrimp and drinks wine at the same time it often causes a migraine. There is something in that combination that triggers her migraines.
Last year I had the opportunity to meet Dr. Keri Peterson, an Internist. She is also a migraine sufferer. She told us that she can eat shrimp with no problem, and drink wine with no problem. However when she shrimp and drinks wine at the same time it usually triggers a migraine.
If you suffer from migraines it’s important that you know what your triggers are so that you can avoid them. That is why I am grateful for the My Migraine app from Excedrin. My husband has been using it since last year to keep track of his migraines and their possible triggers to see if he can pin point specific things that cause him to have migraines. Using the app he realized that deli meats sometimes trigger migraines, more so things like pepperoni and salami, but roasted turkey or roast beef.
If you would like to read my post from earlier in the month you can find it here,
June is National Migraine Awareness Month – What Triggers YOUR Migraines?
To help you (or a loved one) to track their migraines and triggers download the FREE My Migraine app. It’s available on iTunes or you can search for it from the Apple apps store.
For more information about migraines visit MigraineResource.com. You can also check out Excedrin’s Facebook page and follow Excedrin on Twitter (@Excedrin).
Some triggers can also include lack of sleep and not keeping your body properly hydrated. That is why Excedrin would like to provide a lucky reader with a few products to help them get a decent rest, especially when traveling (which a lot of people do over the summer) and a way to make sure they always have water on hand to keep hydrated.
The lucky winner will receive the following prize package;
- Aero Snooze: Three-piece set includes TSA-compliant carrying pouch with soft nylon eye mask and foam earplugs to help travelers drift off to sleep.
- Memory Foam Travel Neck Pillow: This u-shaped travel pillow is made of memory foam to provide support that correctly aligns your neck and spine, while supporting your head in sumptuously soft comfort.
- Tritan From Eastman Water Bottle W/ Straw: This 25 oz. bottle is made of durable Tritan material, BPA free and meets FDA requirements. This bottle is impact and shatter resistant and does not retain odor and/or taste.
This giveaway is open to US residents only and will end on June 30, 2013. The winner will be chosen by random using a random number generator. The winner will be contacted via e-mail and will have three days to reply or a new winner will be chosen in their place.
To enter please comment on this post and tell me about one of your (or a loved ones) migraine triggers.
For extra entries you can use the Rafflecopter widget (below) but you must complete the initial entry requirements or the additional entries won’t qualify (I do check). Extra entries are optional.
