Dairy is not my friend. I am lactose intolerant. I never used to be this way. It wasn’t until I had weight loss surgery that dairy started to upset my tummy. I can eat cheese, some yogurts and some ice cream (not melted ice cream for some reason). Sadly a tall glass of cold milk, which I used to love, would ruin my tummy for the rest of the day.
I know I’m guilty of not getting enough calcium in my diet. I know some foods have calcium in them but you have to eat A LOT of those foods on a daily basis just to get your recommended daily amount of calcium.
Not only is calcium very important for your bone and teeth health it is also vital for the normal clotting of your blood, the contraction and relaxation of blood vessels and muscles, regulation of body fluids, conduction of nerve impulses and it helps with hormones and vital enzymes.
I already know that lack of calcium in my diet is having an effect on me. I used to be 63.5″ tall. I’ve since lost a 1/2 and inch. That might not seem like a lot but at 43 years old, if I continue to lose at that rate, I’m going to be in bad shape in the next 20 years. I also worry about breaking bones when I’m older. That really scares me.
Did you know that getting enough calcium in your diet is also necessary for weight management? It’s been shown that higher intakes of calcium (primarily from dairy) has been associated with lower body weight. Perhaps you’ve seen those commercials about drinking milk daily helps you to keep on track with a healthy diet and weight management.
If your body does not get the calcium it needs it actually takes the calcium from your bones! That is a scary thought.
A whopping 80% of women do not get enough calcium from food alone which means they need additional supplements to ensure that there bodies are getting enough calcium.
Caltrate, the #1 brand of calcium supplements, has introduced a new product – Caltrate Gummy Bites. They are a tasty way to get your much needed calcium AND Vitamin D in your diet.
Caltrate Gummy Bites have the most Vitamin D of any other calcium gummy on the market. They are also natural and free from artificial flavors. Each Gummy Bite is only 18 calories and they come in three tasty flavors (Orange, Strawberry and Black Cherry).
The recommended serving of Caltrate Gummy Bites is 4 bites per day (two in the AM and two in the PM). To get the same amount of calcium as one serving (4 gummies) of Caltrate Gummy Bites you would have to eat the following…
– 8 ounces of Sardines. Eww… I don’t like sardines.
– 6 POUNDS of broccoli. I love broccoli, but not six pounds at a time!
– 27 ounces of milk. That’s a lot of milk.
– 4 cups of boiled spinach. I like spinach, but not on a daily basis.
– 7 slices of processed cheese. I love cheese but those 7 slices on a regular basis would go straight to my hips, butt and thighs.
– 1 POUND of almonds. One pound? WOW! That means to get the same amount of calcium from four Gummy Bites I’d need to eat 266 almonds on a daily basis? Yikes! I mean, I love almonds but that is A LOT of almonds. Not to mention they are high in fat adn calories.
Can you imagine having to eat THAT MANY almonds every single day? No way!
I’m not always very fond of gummy-type things. To me they often are too chewy, sticky or way too sweet. How my kids can eat Gummy Bears I’ll never know. Blah!
The Caltrate Gummy Bites come in three tasty flavors. They are so good! They do have a candy like quality about them, but they are nothing like the real candy gummies. They are sweet but not overly sweet. They also have tasty fruity flavors.
The beauty of the Caltrate Gummy Bites is that they taste really good that I look forward to taking them. I take two in the morning and two around dinner time. I don’t think I’ve missed a serving yet. Since I like how they taste I actually look forward to taking them.
The Gummy Bites are great for teens too. My daughter has been taking them as well. I hav to laugh because she loves the black cherry flavor so much that she’s taken almost all of them out of the bottle. She will shake the bottle to try and get the black cherry ones first.
My son is disappointed that he can’t enjoy them. The bottle says they are OK for teens. Since he’s not officially a teenager yet (he’s only 12) he’ll have to wait another year.
I should mention that unlike other gummies they don’t stick to your teeth and pull your fillings out of your mouth (ha ha). They are very soft and easy to chew.
Making the calcium chews so tasty will ensure that I don’t miss taking a dose. Like I mentioned earlier I actually look forward to taking them. Not only is a sweet treat but it’s also helping my body get the calcium and Vitamin D that it so desperately needs.
My daughter and I are giving Caltrate Gummy Bites two thumbs up.
