Recently the world lost a brilliant man and visionary, Steve Jobs, the man behind Apple. Since his passing the Internet has been buzzing with things about Steve, from famous quotes to his amazing accomplishments.
There are a lot of fantastic quotes from Steve Jobs that I have seen since his death. My favorite quote so far is…
“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don’t settle.” – Steve Jobs (Stanford commencement speech, June 2005)
I’m not the only person interested in his quotes. I have seen his quotes popping up on many websites.
There is a book which will be available on November 8, 2011 called I, Steve: Steve Jobs in his own words. The book was edited by George Beahm. Beahm is also the author and/or editor of more than 25 books, mostly about well known public figures.
I, Steve is a quick read at only 160 pages long. It’s filled with a little background about Steve Jobs. I’d have to say 90% of the book is filled with direct quotes from Steve Jobs.
I’ve read the book. The quotes come from speeches and interviews over the past couple of decades. Some even stem from Steven’s time with Pixar.
I found a lot of the quotes were directly related to Apple and business. To be honest with you I don’t really care for the business related quotes as much as I do the quotes that anyone can apply to their own lives.
Here are a few quotes from the book that I especially liked.
The Journey Is the Reward. —Folklore.org, January 1983
Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn’t matter to me.… Going to bed at night saying we’ve done something wonderful, that’s what matters to me. —CNNMoney/Fortune May 25, 1993.
If you want to live your life in a creative way, as an artist, you have to not look back too much. You have to be willing to take whatever you’ve done and whoever you were and throw them away. – Playboy February 1985
Let’s go invent tomorrow rather than worrying about what happened yesterday. —D5 Conference: All Things Digital, May 30, 2007
Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma, which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown our your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary. —Commencement address, Stanford University, June 12, 2005
Most of the book has quotes directly related to Apple, Mac or business in general. If you are looking for life related quotes, like those mentioned above, you won’t really find them in this book. The book is mostly filled with things Steve had to say about Apple, Mac and business. If you have a business, or you are really into Mac and Apple products, then you might enjoy this book.
The last part of the book highlights Steve’s accomplishments, both personal and professional.
From a business stand point this is an interesting book. On a personal level it’s not what I thought it would be. I was hoping to find more quotes that would pertain to life in general.
Look for I, Steve at a book store near you November 8, 2011. You can pre-order it from Amazon currently for $5.81 (paperback).

Steve Jobs is such as inspiration. I love his philosophy towards life. I think that what he says about needing to love your work to be truly satisfied is quite true. Recently I found myself in a job I hated, and I couldn’t figure out why I was so unhappy, since I have a great dh, and a wonderful foster son. Then, I realized that I wasn’t really fullfilled because I put my dreams on the sidelines. When I rediscovered what I always wanted to do, and started pursuing it, I also regained my zest for life.
I love Steve’s words. He had a short but very fullfilling life!
