I love our pets. They are an important part of our lives. I cannot imagine a life without them.
Being a pet owner is not something to take lightly. You need to provide that pet with plenty of love, attention, fresh food and water and regular vet visits.
There is a “downside,” of sorts, about having a pet – Fleas and Ticks!
Flea and tick season typically runs from April through September – longer in warmer weather areas of the country.
When I was younger our dogs came home with tick often. We lived near the woods and our dogs would spend their day exploring in the woods. I hate ticks! They are so gross!
Fleas were another issue when I was younger. Our dogs had them often too. They especially liked to bite my mom and sister. Their legs would be riddled with flea bites.
It was gross to see a flea jump on you – especially when you were eating!
I am grateful that our dog Espn has never had fleas. He has however had ticks. None have attached themselves to him (we caught it in time) but we have had them crawling all all over him and even found ticks in our home. In fact, I found a tick in our bathroom just a few days ago. It was alive too.
With five cats and a dog if we get a flea or tick infestation it would be catastrophic. It’s one of my worst fears.
Our cats only go out on our balcony (we’re on the top floor). The likelihood of them getting a flea or tick on their own is slim – it’s our dog that can pick them up and bring them inside to infect our cats.
With the weather now warmer, fleas and ticks can be found every where. You don’t even need a pet to pick up a tick. You can be exposed to them by walking in tall grass or in an area where other animals roam.
It’s important to protect your pets from fleas and ticks.
Hartz can help with preventative and real time protection for cats and dogs. From the popular HUG Pro topical drops to conditioning shampoos to home and garden protection – Hartz has numerous products to keep pets, as well as homes and families, safe. Hartz was even awarded the Reader’s Digest Most Trusted Brand in the pet category.
We use Hartz products in our home. Not only do we use them on our dog to make sure he doesn’t get any fleas or tick, but we also use them with our cats just in case. Better safe than sorry!
I like using Hartz Ultra Guard Plus drops for flea and tick protection. Hartz does offer flea and tick collars, which I think are good to use year round, but it’s the skin drops that I like the most.
The drops are super easy to use. They come in pre-measured, individual tubes. Apply one tube per month.
To apply simply open the tube and squeeze the lotion out from inside the tube from your dog’s shoulder blades, along their spin, to their tail. If you have a hairy dog like we do you’ll need to part the hair so that you can apply the lotion directly on the skin. You might also need another person to help you if you happen to have a dog who can’t sit still.
After it’s applied you need to let it dry and ideally keep your pet away from other pets for 24 hours. Living in a small condo doesn’t make that easy for us, but our cats usually stay away from the dog anyway, so it’s not a problem.
Each dose lasts for one month. The package comes with 3 monthly treatments.
There are different doses depending on the size of your dog, so make sure you pick up the correct one. It is also not recommended for puppies under 12 weeks of age.
The product kills fleas, Brown Dog and Deer Ticks, flea eggs and repels mosquitoes for 30 days. It rapidly works on fleas after it’s applied to your pet.
I like the this type of protection over the flea and tick collars, but that is just my personal preference. I now plenty of others who prefer the collars. They work perfectly fine too, in fact, Hartz makes those too.
Dogs are not the only ones who need protection for fleas and ticks – cats do too – especially if your cat ventures outside. It just takes ONE flea or tick to reap havoc on your pet and/or home. Hartz has an extensive line of products for cat protection too.
If you have already found yourself dealing with an infestation, don’t fret. Hartz even has products that you can use to rid your home of these nasty pests including carpet powders, sprays and even a home fogger and a lawn/kennel spray to kill ticks and fleas in your yard.
I WISH our condo board would consider spraying for fleas and ticks. That would help the pet owners in our complex A LOT.
When I think of the name Hartz I always think of flea and tick protection. I think that is because growing up that is the brand my parents used when our dogs would bring home fleas and ticks. Hartz is so much more than that. They also carry awesome pet toys (just ask my dog and cats – they love Hartz pet toys). Hartz even makes products for small pets, reptiles and fish.
If you are interested in learning more about what Hartz has to offer you can visit their official website at www.Hartz.com. Be sure to check out the coupon section for money saving offers. They also have plenty of interesting articles worth checking out.
You can also check out the brand on social media. All of their links are found at the top of their website.
Don’t let your pet succumb to those nasty fleas and ticks. It’s better for them, as well as you and your home, to protect them NOW – before they pick up a flea or tick. Prevention is key!
Look for Hartz pet products where ever pet products are sold.
