My kids are allergic to tree pollen. When they were younger they would cough all night long, compliments of the tree that was right outside their bedroom window. Then one day the condo board had the tree (and many others) cut down totally unexpectedly. Since then the kids have not had an issue with tree pollen during allergy season except for a little sniffle here and there. That is until this year. My kids are coughing, sneezing, complaining of scratchy throats and my son came home with swollen eyes after rubbing his dry, itchy eyes at school.
I don’t normally suffer from allergies, but this season – oh my! It’s been horrible.
There are some easy ways you can reduce allergy suffering in your home. Here are some quick, easy and inexpensive things you can do to help ease your allergy suffering.
– Reduce Pet Dander – Decrease your exposure to pet dander by keeping your pet out of your bedroom, since this is typically the room in which people spend a majority of their time. Of course this is easier said then done for us since my husband and I sleep in the living room and that is where our pets are. xxxxx
– Wrap Things Up – Put fabric covers over common dust mite hideouts such as pillows, mattresses and sofa cushions and wash bedding often. Dust Mites…ewww!!! They are so gross. I don’t even want to think about them living in my home.
– Clear the Air – Prevent pollen from entering your home by keeping windows and doors closed during peak allergy season. Air filters are also considered useful for helping clear the air of lingering allergens triggers. My Father has an air filter system. I have wanted to get one for years. He swears by it.
– Wipe Down Surfaces – Be sure to frequently clean hard surfaces to get rid of allergens in your home. Use Lysol Disinfecting Wipes to remove 90% of pollen particles and dust mite debris, in addition to killing 99.9% of illness-causing bacteria. Also use Lysol Disinfectant Spray to kill the source of mold allergens on hard, non-porous surfaces.
– Avoid Mold Spores – To help reduce mold: use an air conditioner in humid climates and avoid the use of humidifiers in dry climates. Also, run the bathroom fan or open the window when showering. Our bathroom window is always open.
Ewww… I just get so grossed out when I think about things like dust mites. It’s sick to think about little creepy crawlies living on the surfaces on things in your home.
Last year my husband and I both came down with the flu, which some how my kids didn’t catch even though we live in a shoe box. Ever since then I have been diligently wiping things down with Lysol disinfecting wipes and/or spraying things with Lysol spray. I try and use the wipes more so then the spray since I know aerosols are not good for our environment.
I wipe down everything including light switches, the phone, remote controls, computer keyboards & mice… you name it, I wipe or spray it with Lysol. I wouldn’t say I’m a “germophobe”, but I am concerned about things like the Flu and other nasty viruses. I also worry about catching a cold. Sometimes a common cold turns into a lot more with me. One bad cough and I’m on Asthma medication which I try avoid taking since I don’t like to use steroids. Using the Lysol makes me feel more relaxed in my own home knowing that if there was a germ or virus in our home that could make us sick it’s probably killed off by the Lysol.
To learn more about Allergen and Germs you can visit the Lysol website www.Lysol.com. There is a whole sections dedicated to each of them. You can also get a coupon for $1.50 off Lysol as well as learn more about their products. Their new hands free soap dispenser looks really cool. I want to get one of those.
