When it comes to fashion my daughter is on top of it. Ever since she was a little girl she has always wanted to be a fashion designer. She used to spend HOURS drawing people and outfits for them. She actually has a very quirky fashion sense as far as her drawings are concerned. She’s big into mixing up the colors and pairing colors that don’t normally go together.
I am dreading going to do “Back to School” shopping. Not so much for our son since he’s happy with jeans and t-shirts. It’s our daughter that drives us insane. It’s all about the latest fashions and the labels with her. Our daughter has “Champagne Tastes” on our “Walmart Budget”. So we have to compromise. We let her get one or two “labels” that are on sale and the rest of her clothes we have to get from Walmart and Target. She’s not exactly happy with that arrangement but until she gets a job and can buy her own clothes she has to do it our way.
When we were at the Woodbury Commons outlet mall last weekend I kept an eye out for some of the fashion trends. I noticed a lot of plaid. Plaid is going to be “in” this season. You are going to notice a lot of Buffalo check and argyle patterns with fun, bright colors to make the look stand out. The look is both classy and cool.
Another “in” fashion this season is a carry over from last season which is destroyed denim. Not just a hole in the knee but the entire jean is shredded for an updated look. My son has lots of holes in his jeans. I guess he’ll be in fashion this year. Ha Ha.
One fashion trend this season I hope a lot of ‘tween girls don’t go for is the Moto look. It won’t just be biker babes who are wearing motorcycle jackets. This is a great style to invest in because it’s so versatile. Teens can wear motorcycle jackets with everything from feminine dresses and skirts to wide leg trousers and skinny jeans. It’s perfect for the rock-n-roll punk princess. I don’t know if this is a look I want for my ‘tween.
Lastly we have the Boho look. This updated and modern bohemian look replaces the bell bottoms and earthy looks from years past with destroyed skinny denim, folk-inspired fringe vests, shaggy faux fur vests and hobo fringe bags and shoes. The current times have brought back this trend but its new age focus is funky, edgy and light hearted. Burlington calls it Boho chic. I think the Boho (or hippy) look is kind of cute. My daughter loves to wear things with a Peace sign on it so this is a great look for her (although I like the Plaid the best).
Burlington Coat Factory is having sales on a lot of these fashion trends (yes, they sell MORE then just coats!). Here is a PDF file of one of their circulars.

I love the cute buffalo plaid tunic. At $17 it’s not a bad price at all. My daughter LOVES the Moto boots for $20 too.
Here is another one for the younger kids, http://corporate.burlingtoncoatfactory.com/ads/BTS09_Youth.pdf
Burlington Coat Factory is also having a $500 shopping spree. There will be 4 winners. Oh what we wouldn’t do to win that! $500 would not only cover back to school shopping for both kids but also winter clothes, coats and more.

I don’t know, with all the fun fashion trends this season I have a feeling our daughter is going to think she died and went to fashion heaven with all the great options this season.
PS…I just learned about another contest Burlington Coat Factory is having, “Live Free For a Year Sweepstakes.” Burlington Coat Factory will pay up to $20,000 towards the winner’s principal and interest payments for a home mortgage or residential rent payments for one year. WOW!!!
The “Live Free for a Year” sweepstakes began on Monday, July 6th and closes at end of business on Wednesday, September 9th. Contestants must sign up in-store.
