I know a lot of blogs love to participate in Wordless Wednesday. I have always wanted to do it so here we go!
There is a facility about a mile from my home that used to care for people with mental and physical disabilities, from infants to the elderly (mostly children). The first Polio vaccination was administered to a patient there.
There was a lot of bad things that happened there (you can read more about it on the site’s Wikipedia page), or Google Letchworth Village. The facility shut down in 96′ and the buildings, and memories, left to rot.
I go there every now and then. People go there every day to walk or walk their dogs. I have taken a lot of photos there. The buildings are beautiful, even in their current condition. Oddly enough I always feel sad when I go there. There was also the “incident” where my family and I feel like someone came home with us after a visit (if you believe in ghosts and spirits that is).
Here is a photo of a shoe I found out in the middle of a field. It’s an old shoe as you can tell by the style.
I wonder who the shoe belonged to? Was it a residents or a staff member? What happened to it’s owner? Why is there only one and what happened to the laces? How did it end up in the middle of a field? If the shoe could talk would it tell tales of unspeakable horror?
What do YOU think?

Wow! I wonder!!
Considering it does look pretty beat up maybe the owner was in a scuffle?
mel says
Look at that lamp pole. That is a whole lot of vines!
Carolyn G says
Okay that is a little creepy. WOuld be a great place to film a horror movie!
Sara Phillips says
My mind thinks the same thing yours does! I would have all the same questions. And why doesn’t the city do something with the buildings? Historical markers or something?
shelly says
Wow, that vine is pretty cool! I’m sure that shoe has a lot of stories to tell. Not sure what kind though….

Wow that is interesting and definitely a little creepy. No way I would have the guts to walk around there.

All that history. Kinda cool, it would definitely have me thinking.
Anne-Marie @ This Mama Cooks! says
Totally creepy, though I’m betting the shoe is either from a dog (play toy sort of thing) or fell out of a trash bag and blew over.
Linda says
How weird! Im very curious about the historical buildings and whatnot! they are so fascinating!!
Crystal says
History and possibly haunted structures definitely hold beauty.
Henrietta says
Oh wow, Now I’m really intrigued, I imagine as horrible as the history of the place is, that the old buildings must hold a beauty of their own! Neat shoe!
Rachel says
You’re braver than I! That place sure looks eerie – no wonder you were sad.
Maryann says
I will have to go read about that place.

That is interesting, it is fun to explore deserted areas.
